Ottomar Tamm to become the new CEO of Standard

Ottomar Tamm will step into the role of Chairman of the Management Board (CEO) of AS Standard, Estonia’s longest-standing furniture manufacturer and interior solutions provider, taking over the baton from the current CEO, Jonatan Karjus, in March.
Ottomar Tamm, who is starting as the new CEO, has previously led the sales department at Standard while also serving as a member of the management team. He has made a significant contribution to the company’s rapid growth and the robust expansion of its project business volumes.
“It is a great honor to take over the leadership of Standard at such an exciting and dynamic time for the company. The joint effort of the entire team thus far has brought us to a strong position. In my new role, I plan to keep the focus on our current success story – the high-quality execution of complex large-scale projects and the development of customer relations. Our goal is to continue growing Standard and to secure our position as a reliable partner both in Estonia and abroad,” said Ottomar Tamm.
Since restructuring in 2023, Standard has seen significant growth, with turnover increasing from €3.8 million to €10.8 million over the past three years. The company, which now exports to nearly 20 countries, successfully achieved an operating profit in 2025.
“An increasingly larger share of Standard’s revenue today comes from exports. This does not simply mean selling furniture across the border, but offering a complete solution. We guide clients through complex interior projects – from consulting to customs clearance and installation services – anywhere in the world,” Tamm added.
Standard’s strong market position and international reach are also illustrated by the landmark projects of the past year. These include Tallinn’s new landmark, Swedbank Arter; the prestigious KÄMP hotel in Helsinki; and Sokos Vaakuna in Hämeenlinna, as well as offices from Saudi Arabia to Mexico. Furthermore, the list includes several award-winning public buildings and cruise ships sailing in various parts of the world.
The mandate of the company’s current CEO, Jonatan Karjus, was valid for three years, expiring this April. “These three years have been a pivotal time of rebirth for Standard. I am glad that the company is back on a solid growth track and that I had the opportunity to contribute to the new chapter of this dignified organization. This journey has been extremely demanding, and now, as Standard increasingly focuses on the project business, the company needs fresh energy. For me, it is the right time to pass on the reins,” said the outgoing Jonatan Karjus.
While Standard’s management board previously consisted of one member, the company will operate with a two-member board going forward. Mihkel Martin, who has 10 years of experience at Standard, will take office as the second board member. He has previously fulfilled the role of a board member and worked in several other key positions. The supervisory board will continue in the same composition: Avo Kivimaa, Aavo Kokk, and Priit Tamm.
